WORK HISTORY
11/2000 - 6/2002 Brammer Engineering
Network Administrator
Brammer Engineering is an oilfield services firm. As network administrator I was in charge of a network consisting of 12 Compaq and Dell servers and 120 Dell workstations. The network infrastructure was composed of a 3Com gigabit backbone switch connecting 3Com 10/100 Ethernet switches. I was also responsible for the wide-area network, consisting of 4 locations connected using Cisco routers and T1 or frame relay connections. The servers I supported included Windows 2000 file and print servers, Exchange 2000 email, SQL Server database, and Citrix Metaframe remote desktop servers, as well as network services such as DNS and DHCP. Major accomplishments: * Upgraded NT 4 network to Windows 2000. I upgraded our servers to Windows 2000 and Active Directory, and also moved some functions onto different hardware to make the network as efficient as possible. * Installed and configured CA Unicenter. I installed and configured CA Unicenter 3.0 (TND) Network and Systems management and configured agents for Windows 2000 Server and Exchange. In addition we rolled out CA eTrust Antivirus throughout the company and Unicenter Remote Control at the remote sites. * Connected remote site via VPN. I connected a site in Houston to the Internet via DSL. I configured a Windows 2000 server with two network cards, then set it up to act as a network address translating router and connected it to the main site with a virtual private network.
1/96 - 11/2000 Enterprise Computing Services
Senior Systems Engineer
ECS is a consultancy, and I spent most of my time at client sites on service and consulting jobs ranging from a few hours to six months in duration. Employees had to have good customer service skills in addition to technical skills. Major accomplishments: * PC rollouts. I planned and supervised 3 PC rollouts, totally 500 PCs. In each case I developed either the installation script or the standard PC image. For rollouts at a local hospital I also created application installation objects using Novell ZENworks. * Network Consulting. I did a lot of work installing and upgrading network operating systems such as Windows NT and Novell NetWare, including creating login scripts and managing user rights. In addition I consulted on NT domain design, Novell Directory Services partitioning and replication, and system policy creation, among other topics. * WAN and broadband setup. I installed and configured wide-area networks using Cisco routers and T1 or frame relay connections, and installed and set up Internet connections over T1 and ISDN.
11/94 - 12/95 Self-Employed
I did some freelance consulting. My main accomplishment was the design of a Microsoft Access database that imported customer data from a Btrieve system and then analyzed it and generated reports. In addition I did some Novell network administration.
1/94 - 11/94 CTX Mortgage Company, Dallas, Texas
Technical Support Representative
At CTX Mortgage I was responsible for technical support for about 25 offices in Florida and Alabama, each of which had its own Novell server. I provided phone support, and when necessary connected to the branch using PC Anywhere to administer the server. This job was almost entirely troubleshooting, although I did make several trips to the field to set up new offices, including the LAN and all the workstations.
10/92 - 9/93 SpectraClaim Services Group, Dallas, Texas
Programmer / Analyst
I wrote and optimized reports in Clarion report writer for a health claims tracking system and maintained a claims editing and transmittal system in Quick BASIC. I also wrote a database in Quick BASIC to store and retrieve electronic itemized hospital bills.
1/92 - 9/92 First Image Demand Publishing, Atlanta, Georgia
Assistant System Administrator
This job was mostly routine system administration on a Sun SPARC 2 and a Novell NetWare 3.11 system. I spent most of my time processing image files and putting them in the correct format. In addition I did some testing to make sure new equipment would work within our current system, and I developed procedures for using a new scanning system.
