The World I Live In
This post of Sarah’s reminded me of a situation I found myself in recently. My car was running like utter crap, hesitating every time I tried to accelerate, so I finally took it in to have the spark plugs replaced. All the guys at work told me it was no big deal, but I didn’t have the tools or the knowledge, so I took it to the local garage and let them handle it.
Then I went home, took apart my computer, and installed a new heatsink and power supply.
When I was a teenage, I tried to get interested in cars, like all good buys should, but I never had much luck. Too busy playing “F-15 Strike Eagle” on my Apple //e. Now it looks like I wasn’t a dork - I was just ahead of my time! A some point between now and then building your own computer became not just fairly common but an accepted, non-dorky hobby.
But collecting stamps? Short-wave radio? Still dorky.
And the car runs great, and my computer no longer spontaneously shuts itself off. Win-win!
